Marc Bekoff, Professor of Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado, Boulder, has made many studies of animal emotions and animal play. He argues that it is not unscientific to recognize that they too have feelings like trust and a sense of fairness. It's been shown that even the humble honey bee can become pessimistic and depressed when stressed.
